Lexus LFA Loses to Ferrari 458 Italia in C&D's 2013 Lightning Lap Test

It's a fact that Nürburgring lap times have become something of a standard when it comes to comparing sports cars’ performance. Car & Driver magazine decided that it was impractical to conduct its annual Lightning Lap event in Germany as they had 20 cars to test, so its editors chose the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) as the U.S. equivalent of the ‘Ring.

While the 4.1-mile long track is one-third of the Nordschleife, it features more than 30 turns and elevation changes and, according to C&D, it makes for a demanding venue in which to test each car to its limits.

Ferrari Driver Having a Hard Time to Park

We'll admit that, low-slung supercars with slots instead of normal rear windows and gearboxes that sometimes have a mind of their own aren't the easiest vehicles to parallel park.

Nevertheless, we think that this Ferrari driver had more than enough space to complete the parking maneuver if not with a single move, a couple at the most.

This Ferrari Enzo Replica with a 400hp BMW V12 Almost Had us Fooled

More often than not, replica sightings on eBay capture our attention for all the wrong reasons, but once in a while, we find ourselves taking a second look to see if what we're dealing with is real or not.

Such was the case with this Ferrari Enzo replica listed for sale in Germany, which was unearthed by CarScoop reader Bilal A.

Granted, the shape of the rear window covering the engine bay and the way it connects to the roof, or most parts of the interior including the gated shifter and the regular steering wheel, are a dead giveaway to the trained eye, but you have to admit that, overall, the builder of the car did a pretty good job.

We bet the editors had a difficult time trying to narrow down the finalists to a reasonable number. In the end, they came up with five cars from different segments.

There’s a luxury SUV, a four-door, four-seat supercar, two luxury saloons and a two-door, four-seater supercar.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Review And Images Wallpaper

Italian supercar Ferrari F12 Berlinetta marks the emergence of a new generation of 12-cylinder cars of this brand. The car delivers unparalleled performance with an innovative engine and unmatched ease of operation, combined with the advanced architecture of the body and a truly exceptional aerodynamic characteristics.

Since its foundation in 1947, the presentation of each new 12-cylinder "horses", produced by artists from Maranello turns into a magic show. The first model was the Ferrari 125 S. From the point of view, conservative approach, 12-cylinder engine is ideal for supercars.

Sport Spider 375 America in 1953 finalized the image of single sports car F1, while the model 259 GTO was the perfect combination of excellent design and performance. This list would not be complete without a car class Gran Turismo 1969 365 GTB, better known by the unofficial name of Daytona, which, thanks to perfectly balanced design has become a source of extraordinary driving experience. All of these engines and cars are now collector's dream around the world, and each of them after release symbolizes a new stage of development of their class.

And the output of the next car with a twelve cylinder engine marks the beginning of a new era: F12berlinetta not just a modern 12-cylinder models in the front mid-engine layout, it is also the first car to an entirely new generation of this class.

The engineers and technicians of the company set a challenge - to create perednemotorny car with unique dynamic characteristics, which would provide the driver as much fun to drive and control, as well as at low speeds. It provided for the design improvement 599 GTB Fiorano, recognized the most beautiful model Ferrari. Finally came a sports car with a unique new middle 12-cylinder engine of 740 horsepower and a torque of 690 Nm.

The engine and the driver's seat in the model "planted" lower than the prototype, the wheelbase is reduced, and a new version of the location of suspension and transmission helped make the back of the body leaner. The model also has the ideal performance of the mass distribution, 54% of which goes to the rear axle, and a lower center of mass shifted to the rear.

Frame chassis and body F12berlinetta also have a completely new design, which uses 12 different aluminum alloys. Some of them were first used in the automotive industry. And many of the revolutionary technologies of assembly and installation. All this has helped to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle up to 1 525 kg, as well as maximize its efficiency and dynamic rigidity by 20%. Special story with aerodynamics. Here, in one of the first innovations to note Aeromost - channel running along the car's hood through the holes to the sides and back, which increases downforce and the active cooling of brake system - a system of air intake duct in the braking system, which are opened only in case of increase in the operating temperature of the brakes .

Consequently F12berlinetta be the most dynamically efficient car Ferrari (figure doubled in comparison with the 599 GTB Fiorano) with a coefficient of drag to 0.299 and the downforce of 123 kg at a speed of 200 km / h

V12 with direct injection, the volume of 6262 cubic meters. cm and a pressure of 200 bar, which is equipped with a model F12berlinetta, provides unparalleled dynamic performance for the 12-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. Maximum power output is 740 liters. with. at 8250 rev / min, a specific power output of the car reaches a record high of 118 hp / liter. Quick response and instant set speed provides maximum torque of 690 Nm, 80% of which you reach at 2500 rev / min, and the steady increase in power up to the limit to 8700 rev / min with increasing torque. As well as all the motors in F1, V12 has low inertia, and so the torque is increased very rapidly.

Product of ongoing collaboration style center Ferrari and Pininfarina, the design is based on F12berlinetta perfectly balanced proportions of the car. He has an original innovative style with the traditional 12-cylinder Ferrari features performances. Dressed in a flowing, and aggressive body lines, this car also sets the highest standard of interior space and comfort, despite its compact external dimensions.

The attractiveness of the process of driving further increased due to the rich full sound of the exhaust standard for all engines naturally aspirated V12 Ferrari. The degree of performance F12berlinetta gives a lovely view of the excellent engine performance, fuel consumption and emissions are now 30% lower due to the stop-start system, "smart" alternator and ignition system multispark. These and many other technical solutions possible to reduce the degree of internal friction and make F12berlinetta the best in its class due to its optimum power and emissions.

The engine is also equipped with stop-start and a "smart" alternator, which charges the battery only when there is no need for electricity. Special attention was paid to the reduction of internal friction, pressure on the outlet of the gas and the pressure at the inlet.

Seven-speed F1 transmission with double clutch maximizes the performance and driving comfort. The technology used is based on the independent management of even and odd gears which are pre-set using two different input valov.Krutyaschy time immediately transmitted to the wheels. In F12berlinetta apply shorter gear ratios, and the 7-gear transmission ratio is direct, not overdrive, allowing the use of high capacity power car in any gear. In addition, the transmission is equipped with built-in electronic differential E-Diff3, which reduced the overall weight of the vehicle.

This Ferrari certainly all "Ferrari" - "Ferrari": handsome, bad turn, original and real berlinetta. He is more powerful Lamborghini Aventador at 40 hp and dispersed to hundred for 3 seconds. At a cost of 460 thousand euros for the car already has 12 orders from Russia, and the quota of our country is not yet defined.
